Turkish Airlines may resume flights to Dnipropetrovsk, Ivano-Frankivsk late in May

Turkish Airlines will be able to resume flights to the airports of Dnipropetrovsk and Ivano-Frankivsk until the end of May after their runaways have been repaired.

The agreement was achieved at a meeting between State Aviation Service Chairman Oleksandr Bilchuk and Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan with Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Turkey Yonet Can Tezel and Turkish Airlines managers, the State Aviation Service's press service told Interfax-Ukraine.

The parties met to settle the situation around the Turkish company's flights to Dnipropetrovsk and Ivano-Frankivsk.

The two cities' airports claim that the technical condition of their runaways suggests certain restrictions on flights.

Earlier media reported that Turkish Airlines could not perform flights to Ivano-Frankivsk and Dnipropetrovsk.

Omelyan earlier said that the dispute between the management of Dnipropetrovsk airport and Turkish Airlines was of commercial nature and there were no grounds for the Infrastructure Ministry and the State Aviation Service to interfere.

Turkish Airlines (Turk Hava Yollari) was created in 1933 along with a fleet of five aircraft. Today, Turkish Airlines operates 304 passenger and cargo planes.

Turkish Airlines performs flights to 285 airports (49 domestic and 236 international). Dnipropetrovsk airport is managed by Dniproavia company, which is co-owned by businessman Ihor Kolomoisky, who is also co-owner of the Privat Group and the country's largest airline company – Ukraine International Airlines (UIA, Kyiv).

On May 13, 2010, Ivano-Frankivsk International airport's property was transferred to Skorzonera for 30-year concession. Skorzonera is affiliated with the Privat Group.
