Government approves license terms for storing umbilical cord blood, tissues, cells

The Cabinet of Ministers for deregulation of business activities in the field of health care has approved the license terms of economic activities involving the storage of umbilical cord blood and other human tissues and cells.

According to resolution No. 286 of March 2, posted on the government's website, the document shortens the list of documents submitted for obtaining the license. The document, in particular, excludes the norm of conducting laboratory studies by only one subject who received a license for a bank of umbilical cord blood (in this case it is proposed to involve third parties in the study, who have such laboratories in their structure) and the norm that foresaw a minimum area (500 square meter) for carrying out economic activities of the banks of umbilical cord blood.

In addition, the decision contains provisions for implementing European approaches to the work of licensees and gives the opportunity to develop public-private partnerships and the private medical sector.

The document stipulates that Ukraine's Ministry of Health is the licensing authority, to which business entities, regardless of their form of ownership, must apply. The same holds for business activities involving the storage of umbilical cord blood and other human tissues and cells.
