Free Crimea: Agricultural production in Crimea halves in 2015

The harvest of fruit and vegetables in Crimea in 2015 almost halved compared to the figure before Russian had annexed the peninsula, the ideologue of the Free Crimea project, political analyst Taras Berezovets, has said.

"The indicators of agricultural production are impressive. In 2015 Crimea produced 213,000 tonnes of vegetables and 66,000 tonnes of fruit, while prior to occupation it produced 380,000-480,000 tonnes of vegetables and at least 100,000 tonnes of fruit," he said at a press conference in Kyiv.

According to the report by Free Crimea, the irrigated area in Crimea decreased by 10 times, from 135,000 to 13,400 hectares.

Free Crimea predicts that in 2016 for the saturation of the domestic market Crimea will have to import 50% of milk, 33% of meat and 27% of eggs of the total consumption. Today products manufactured in Crimea satisfy only 35% of the peninsula's need for food.

According to Advisor to the Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food of Ukraine Oleksandr Liyev, in tourism the best situation in 2016 will be in Yalta, Sevastopol, and Saki city - it is expected that the occupancy of hotels and guest houses will reach 90%. Rozdolne and Chornomorske districts most suffered from occupation – here the rate of hotel occupancy will be close to zero. Only 580 of the 712 official hotels and resorts will start work. Only 1,000 of the 4,500 private facilities are expected to open.
