Rada tax committee proposes raising excise tax on beer, alcohol by 50% in 2016

The parliamentary tax committee considers the increase in excise tax on beer, spirit and alcoholic drinks in 2016 by 100%, proposed by the Cabinet, to be excessive and initiates an increase of 50% in the excise rate, head of the committee Nina Yuzhanina said during the discussion of government draft amendments to the Tax Code (No. 3688).

According to her, the committee also supports the rise in excise duty on alcoholic distillates and alcoholic drinks produced by distilling grape wine or grape husks, which include cognac, by 50% from April 1, 2016.

Yuzhanina also reported the committee has not confirmed a 40% increase in the specific rate and the minimum tax liability and raising the ad valorem rate by 3 percentage points for tobacco goods in the draft law.

Among other remarks, observing which the committee proposes adopting the bill, are the increase in rates for the special use of forest resources by 40% instead of 26.5% proposed by the government, but the decline in royalty for amber extraction to 25% from 30%, Yuzhanina said.
