Ukraine plans to increase budget expenses on development of weapons by 30% in 2016, First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) and head of the interagency commission for defense and industrial complex and the interagency commission for military cooperation and exports supervision of the NSDC Oleh Hladkovsky has said.

"The increase of budget expenses for development of armaments is 30% in the defense budget for 2016," Hladkovsky told Interfax-Ukraine in Kyiv on December 5.

Among top-priority rearmament areas next year will be reinforcement of the air defense system.

Hladkovsky said that the task to rearm the forces with new armament and military equipment is outlined in the draft state program on development of armaments of Ukraine until 2020. The document has been submitted to the government, he said.

"We expect that by the end of the year the program will be adopted," he said, adding that the issue depends on the situation with the adoption of the 2016 national budget.

"Today, we're holding talks with the IMF, and we have positive results in the tax reform issue. I'm sure that by December 15 we will have a positive result," he said.
