DTEK does not intend to import coal until problem with debts is resolved

DTEK at present is not ready to import coal until the problem of debt payment to the company is resolved and fair tariffs are established, head of the energy holding Maksym Tymchenko has told reporters in Kyiv.

According to him, the debt of the energy market to the company is UAH 5.3 billion. In addition, when the company last winter imported stem coal from South Africa, losses from its supply because of unfair tariffs amounted to UAH 350 million.

"Financially we are not ready to import coal, take foreign exchange risks, those on payment and delivery," he said.

Tymchenko said that now it is possible to bring coal to Ukraine for $65, or UAH 1,560 per tonne, while the tariff includes a coal price of UAH 1,100 per tonne.
