Luhansk region entrepreneurs to receive UAH 2 mln from UNDP, Japanese govt – regional authorities

Entrepreneurs of Luhansk region will receive UAH 2 million from the United Nations Development Program and the Japanese government, the press service of Luhansk Regional State Administration has reported.

"The United Nations Development Program has reported on the results of the first round of the grants competition for entrepreneurs of Luhansk region. The total amount of grants allocated for building or restoring businesses during the first stage is UAH 2,125,840. Thirteen projects have won the grants. The funding for this program was provided by the government of Japan," the press service of Luhansk Regional State Administration wrote on its Facebook page on Wednesday.

According to an employment expert of the Economic and Social Recovery of Donbas program, Oleksandr Osovets, a total of 78 bids were registered, but only 62 of them met the necessary requirements and were admitted to the competition.

"The evaluation committee has examined the submitted business plans and decided to give grants to 13 projects. In addition, another four projects were included in a backup list," Osovets said.

According to him, the winning projects include a range of business ideas from enterprises for the production of foam concrete or paving slabs for a children's development center. The maximum amount grant per one participant is UAH 225,000.

The tender was held under the framework of the UNDP Small Grants Program, intended for IDPs and resident of Donetsk and Luhansk regions who wish to start or resume their businesses.
