NBU governor, finance minister to attend IMF annual meeting in Peru

An official Ukrainian delegation including Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Valeria Gontareva and Finance Minister Natalie Jaresko will take part in the Annual Meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank which will be held in Lima, the capital city of Peru, on October 8-12.

The Ukrainian delegation will participate in the official events of the annual meeting and will meet with the leadership of the IMF and the World Bank, the leadership of the central banks of Canada, Sweden, New Zealand, Austria and Cyprus, and representatives of leading international companies, the NBU reported on Wednesday.

The meetings will address the economic situation in Ukraine, the monetary policy of the NBU, and the provision of international assistance, as well as a number of issues of bilateral cooperation.

As reported, on October 6, Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko held a telephone conversation with Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde. They coordinated their positions for the fulfillment of the conditions for the next tranche of the IMF loan, the Ukrainian president's press service reported.

The mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) visited Kyiv during September 22 - October 2 and decided to continue discussions with Ukraine on the second review of the Extended Fund Facility Arrangement (EFF) in support of the authorities' economic reform program.

"The mission held constructive discussions with the authorities on the policies needed to complete the second review under the EFF arrangement. Understandings were reached on most issues. However, as the authorities still need more time to fully flesh out their policy proposals for 2016 in some areas, discussions will continue in the coming weeks," IMF mission chief for Ukraine Nikolay Gueorguiev said.
