Two western traders start importing gas to Ukraine – Naftogaz head

Two foreign companies today will start importing gas to Ukraine and sell it to domestic consumers, national joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy Andriy Kobolev has said.

"Tomorrow, the tandem of two western gas traders, which first used our proposal to import gas to Ukraine (not to our border, but with customs clearance and resale of gas to consumers inside the country), will start operating on the Ukrainian gas market," he wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

He said that the future participants of the Ukrainian gas sales market are ready to pay VAT for imports of gas to Ukraine (in comparison to the state holding, which has the privilege of not paying VAT).

"Despite the difficult economic situation in the Ukraine, the tough regulation of currency transactions, the absence of enough predictability of the market reform, welcome our dear new players and real rivals! Good luck!" he added.

According to Slovak gas transportation system operator Eustream a.s., the application for importing gas to Ukraine grew to 29.1 million cubic meters as of September 24, while in the past week it was 26.1-26.3 million cubic meters a day.

In July, the press service of Naftogaz Ukrainy said that U.S. gas trader TrailStone planned to provide gas sale and purchase services on the Ukrainian market from October 2015.

TrailStone is a group of companies funded by Riverstone private equity group. TrailStone is staffed by energy and finance professionals with in-depth experience in mining, oil and gas investment and finance, energy asset management, energy logistics and trading.
