Cabinet receives proposal to dismiss deputy head of fiscal service Likarchuk

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has confirmed that the government has received a proposal to dismiss Deputy Head of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine Kostiantyn Likarchuk who is currently responsible for the customs sector, he told reporters on Friday.

"The proposal to dismiss Deputy Head of the State Fiscal Service who is responsible for customs issues, Mr. Likarchuk, due to corruption in the customs agency," Yatseniuk said.

As reported, Head of the State Fiscal Service Roman Nasirov sent materials regarding the operations of his deputy Likarchuk to law-enforcement agencies and a proposal to dismiss him to the Finance Ministry and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Nasirov said that "unfortunately, this is a political mistake [to appoint Likarchuk] which was committed and which is to be corrected as soon as possible. It occurred that Likarchuk was unable to fulfill functions of deputy head of the State Fiscal Service and head of the sector which was given to him."

Earlier, Likarchuk said that Nasirov redistributed the functions to manage the divisions of the State Fiscal Service between himself and his deputies, allowing Likarchuk to only manage the Dnipro recreation center.

Likarchuk criticized the Finance Ministry and the head of the State Fiscal Service as they tried to restrict the independence of the customs service. He said that there is a systemic conflict between tax and customs directions, and that he cannot effectively realize tasks set before him due to the absence of tools to manage the customs service.

Deputy Finance Minister Olena Makeyeva said that the tax and customs services are to be united. This would allow for doubling functions and reducing the number of checks on businesses.
