The price of natural gas from Russia in Q4 2015 for Ukraine could be $250, although Kyiv has a chance of protecting its price thanks to reverse gas supplies, Energy and Coal Industry Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Demchyshyn has said.

"The price at which we can buy gas from Russia in the fourth quarter without discounts would be around $250. Earlier we had various discounts… However, our ability of not buying gas from them with the reverse flow, gives us understanding that we would protect our interests and we don't have to buy at any price. The price at which we're ready to buy should be unbiased, justifiable and beneficial for us," the minister said in an interview on Channel 5 TV.

Demchyshyn added that a discount of at least $30-40 is economically justifiable for Ukraine.

"In Q3 2015 they [Russia] offered $40 as a discount. What the discount for the fourth quarter is unknown, discussion is underway. However, I think that the discount must be, as there is the financial justification: they are to spend at least $30 to supply gas to European partners of Russia via Ukraine, and we do not have these expenses when buy on the eastern border. The discount of at least $30-40 is justifiable," the minister said.
