Government initiates improvement of mechanism for protecting national producers against subsidized imports

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has initiated the introduction of legislative changes that will introduce international standards for anti-subsidy investigations.

Relevant draft law No. 2517a on amendments to the law of Ukraine on the protection of domestic producers from subsidized imports was registered in the Verkhovna Rada on August 21.

According to an explanatory note to the bill, its aim is to improve the mechanism of conducting anti-subsidy investigations and applying countervailing measures to the results of such investigations, including through the application of international standards in protection of domestic producers from unfair trade practices.

The main objectives of the bill are to settle the issue of calculating benefits provided to the recipient; defining the types of subsidies in accordance with international law, improving the procedures of obtaining information during anti-subsidy investigations, and expanding the list of economic factors studied during such investigations to determine whether damage was caused to domestic producers.
