Ukraine accumulates 13 bcm of gas in UGS, to accelerate pumping to 1.5 bcm in Aug to have 19 bcm by winter – Naftogaz

Ukraine has accumulated 13 billion cubic meters of gas in its underground gas storage facilities (UGS) and the country plans to accelerate pumping to 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas per month in August, Head of Naftogaz Ukrainy Andriy Kobolev has said at a meeting of the energy headquarters in Kyiv.

"Measures (to raise funds for the purchase and improvement of payment discipline) will allow [Ukraine] in August to add about 1.5 billion cubic meters to the UGS. If this happens, we will be able to fully make up for the schedule and [start] adding more gas in September and October and enter the winter season," he said.

Kobolev added that Naftogaz Ukrainy believes it is necessary to accumulate 19 billion cubic meters of gas in the UGS by winter.

"We in Naftogaz, taking into account the experience of previous years and possible conflicts with Gazprom, as it was in the previous years, believe that 19 billion cubic meters of gas is the volume that would be comfortable," he said.
