The total amount of funding required to build the first phase of the second line of Kyiv's main sewer, as the first line has been deemed unsafe since 1999 and was included in the national register of potentially dangerous objects in 2005, has been estimated at more than UAH 300 million.

According to the press service of Kyiv City State Administration, with reference to its deputy head Petro Panteleyev, the funds provided from the Kyiv budget are insufficient to realize this project and the capital needs financial support from the national budget.

"After all, if the construction is not completed in the near future, it might lead to turning the major part of the right bank of Kyiv off from water supply and sewerage and cause the flooding of the central part of the city – Pechersky, Podilsky and Shevchenkivsky districts – with sewage," Panteleyev said, when inspecting the construction project along with representatives of PJSC Kyivmetrobud and PJSC Kyivvodokanal (both based in Kyiv).

The chief engineer for the maintenance of sewerage networks and pumping stations at PJSC Kyivvodokanal, Ruslan Rolynsky, said that the city's main sewer was inspected in 2014, 2010 and 2007.

According to the report issued by the press service, if the project is fully funded, the construction and commissioning of the Kyiv alternate sewer will be complete in 2016-2017.
