SBU returns documents seized in Kyiv office of UniCredit Bank

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has returned all the documents seized in the Kyiv office of UniCredit Bank, the bank said on its website, referring to First Deputy Board Chairperson Tamara Savoschenko.

"The SBU decided to return all the documents seized in the bank. UniCredit Bank is satisfied with the decision of the SBU and considers that the incident is over and done with. UniCredit Bank is always ready to present all information required for investigations in the set terms under a request of the authorities," Savoschenko said.

As reported, the SBU recently conducted a search and seized documents in UniCredit Bank, citing a decision made by Kyiv's Pechersky Court on a criminal case involving the financing of terrorism. The SBU said they were conducting investigative actions at UniCredit Bank PJSC Ukrsotsbank in Kyiv, over attempts to finance terrorism by legal and business entities, while stressing that the bank itself was not suspected of any wrongdoing.

According to the SBU, investigative actions are being conducted "to stop possible financial operations aimed at financing the terrorist organizations LPR and DPR."

In September 2013, the Ukrsotsbank premises were searched by officials from the Donetsk region's department to disrupt organized crime on the basis of a ruling issued by the Donetsk Leninsky District Court to seizing documents and computer equipment connected to the bank's client ISA prime Developments.

The bank expressed its readiness to provide all requested documents and information, but law enforcement agents still conducted the search and seized documents and computers from the central office of the bank on Kyiv's Kovpaka Street and at its office on Dymytrova Street, including those located outside the fixed list of addresses.

"Such actions by the law enforcement agencies have disrupted the bank's operations and client services," Ukrsotsbank said.
