IFC, EBRD in talks on participation in Ukrgasbank's equity capital – NBU

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) are in talks on participation in Kyiv-based government-controlled Ukrgasbank's equity capital, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) said on its Website.

This was announced by NBU Governor Valeriya Gontareva at a meeting with bankers on April 28, the NBU said.

"One can observe that foreign investors are greatly interested in the Ukrainian economy," she said. According to her, not only international financial organizations, but also private investors are mulling the injection of investment in Ukraine's banking sector.

Neither the IFC's local office nor the EBRD's Kyiv Resident Office has confirmed this information.

Ukrgasbank was founded in 1993. Ukraine's Finance Ministry was the bank's major stockholder as of April 2015 with 92.9998%.

The bank ranked 16th among 158 operating banks as of January 1, 2015, in terms of total assets worth UAH 21.028 billion, according to the NBU.
