Russia needs to fulfill Minsk deal, restore Ukraine borders to be free from sanctions – Biden

U.S. Vice-President Joe Biden has said anti-Russian sanctions should stay in place until the complete fulfillment of the Minsk deal and restoration of Ukraine's borders.

He said in a video address to the international conference supporting Ukraine in Kyiv on Tuesday that the sanctions should be continued so that Russia meets its commitments under the Minks agreements and puts the borders back under Ukrainian control.

Biden repeated that Russia had occupied the Ukrainian territory and sent its troops, mercenaries, tanks and missiles to Donbas and described that situation as an attempt to re-draw European borders.

The vice-president assured conference delegates that the United States continues to supply Ukraine with security systems for the protection of its territory and borders.

He claimed that the Russian aggression triggered a huge humanitarian disaster, in which two million Ukrainians fled their homes and the country had to deal with 1.2 internally displaced people.
