USAID to provide $30 mln to economy ministry to expand exports, train managers

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) via Western NIS Enterprise Fund (WNISEF) will provide $30 million to the Economic Development and Trade Ministry of Ukraine during three years for four programs, and the main program is the expansion of export opportunities of the country.

WNISEF President Jaroslawa Johnson and Ukrainian Economic Development and Trade Minister Aivaras Abromavicius signed a memorandum of program financing in Kyiv on Monday.

This year the fund switches to the new phase of operating with new programs, she said. The fund will provide the required aid to resolve urgent problems of Ukraine, she said.

Johnson said that the fund will provide technical aid to the Economic Development and Trade Ministry to draw up the export promotion policy, issue grants for taking МВА, provide beneficial loans to companies which will create new jobs and resolve problems of displaced persons. The fund will coordinate efforts of local power agencies in the projects on improving living conditions.

Abromavicius said that the major part of the funds will be sent to expand export markets for Ukrainian companies.

"Any support, political, financial, military, is important for us. The macro-financing aid helps us a lot, it aims at stabilizing the economy. However, steps made by USAID jointly with Western NIS Enterprise Fund would help growing high-level professionals in public administration," he said.

WNISEF said in its press release that the program of $30 million is financed using funds received from its investment operations.

WNISEF is a $150 million fund that has invested in small and medium-sized companies in Ukraine and Moldova.
