Ukraine could harvest 21-22 million tonnes of wheat in 2015 if no extreme weather conditions are registered, Ukrainian Weather Center Director Mykola Kulbida has said.

"If average weather conditions are recorded, even partially unfavorable, the yield of winter wheat in Ukraine will be around 33 centners per hectare. Taking into account the area sowed with wheat it could be 21-22 million tonnes of grain," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.

He said that this year around 1.2 million hectares with winter crops are to be resowed. The major part of the fields is located in Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad and Chernihiv regions.

He added that by the end of March it is not expected that temperatures will fall, which are optimal conditions for the start of the sowing campaign.

Head of the business project service of APK-Inform agency Rodion Rybchinsky said at the press conference that totally it could be 19 million tonnes of wheat harvested this year with the yield of 30.2 centners per hectare.

The forecasts of both experts are drawn up not taking into account Crimea.
