Artyomsol plans to increase salt shipments by one-third in 2015

State enterprise Artyomsol plans to ship 3.2 million tonnes of salt to the Ukrainian and foreign markets in 2015, which is one-third more than in the previous year.

Company acting CEO Denys Fomenko said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine that the company fell short of targeted salt shipments in 2014 because of logistical problems caused by military actions in Donetsk region.

"Our plan was 3.1 million tonnes, while we shipped 2.4 million tonnes. All the difficulties were associated exclusively with the problems of the occupation and the management of the railways ... We faced the situation, when railroad tracks were destroyed - about 17 railway tracks," he said.

According to the acting director, the supply of railway wagons improved after Artemivsk railway directorate joined Pivdenna Railways instead of Donetsk Railways.

Fomenko also noted that despite disruption to shipments the company exceeded its net profit plan by 29%.

"Ultimately, exchange rate fluctuations really helped us. We exceeded the annual net profit plan by 29%," he said, adding that profit amounted to UAH 130 million.

The domestic market occupies about 35% of the structure of Artyomsol supplies. Of these, about 15% is edible salt, 20% - technical salt. The enterprise exports produce to 22 countries, including the Russian Federation, which currently only imports technical salt. The export of edible salt by the Ukrainian producer to Russia was banned from January 26 of this year.
