Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Valeriya Gontareva plans to remove the "oligarch" schemes from the Ukrainian banking system, reads a posting on the NBU's website.

"I plan to remove the oligarch schemes of functioning commercial banks from the system. We plan to create conditions which will make impossible the return to these schemes," reads the report, referring to a statement of Gontareva made at a meeting with U.S. Secretary of Treasury Jacob Lew on January 28.

She informed the U.S. Secretary of Treasury on the results of fighting corruption in the central bank and in the banking sector in general.

According to the report, it is important to implement the package of reforms to complete the process of purifying the banking system.

The sides also discussed macroeconomic indicators and prospects for stabilizing the situation in Ukraine.

"Despite pessimistic forecasts, we hope that the conflict in the eastern part of the country is settled, and economy will stabilize," Gontareva said.
