Germany will provide EUR 14 million to Ukraine for environment protection, the press service of the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry of Ukraine has reported.

"The funds will go to finance national natural parks, the biosphere, and natural reserves in the Carpathian mountains of Ukraine – to increase the number of visitors and tourists, strengthen educational work with local residents, and observe European requirements on preserving endangered animals and plants," reads the report.

Ukraine is to agree, and sign, an intergovernmental agreement with Germany.

The ministry said that Ukraine and Germany also discussed the possibility of Germany providing another EUR 19 million.

"Germany is considering the provision of financing of EUR 15 million to preserve valuable forest ecosystems and to adapt them to climate change… Ukraine could receive another EUR 4 million for the construction of an international center to preserve beech forests and its placement in Kvasy, in the Carpathian Biosphere Preserve," the ministry said.
