NBU demands 26 banks disclose their owners - magazine

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has demanded 26 banks disclose information about their owners, NBU Deputy Head Vladyslav Rashkovan has said.

"In autumn we sent the requirement to 26 banks to disclose their owners by the end of the year," he said in an interview with the Novy Chas (Novoye Vremia) magazine.

The banker noted that the laws changed this year allow to recognize banks with non-revealed owners as problem.

"We will demand what is required by law. We have received full information about the owners of 35 banks from the first and second groups. The main problems arise with the institutions of the third and fourth groups. Of these, 26 banks have not provided information at all. There are banks suspected of the fact they are presented by nominal owners. There is a group of banks, the ownership information on which is less than 50% disclosed," the expert said.

According to him, lending to related parties is one of the problems of the banking system. In this regard, the regulator is working on the disclosure of information about the real owners of Ukrainian banks.
