World Bank could issue $300 mln to Ukraine for projects in health care sector

Ukraine is at the final stage of negotiations on obtaining funds from the World Bank for a total of $300 million for implementing projects in the health care sector, Acting Health Minister Vasyl Lazoryshynets has said at a press conference.

"Today this is the only way to maintain and reconstruct our health care establishments, and in some fields - to build new centers," he said.

World Bank Program Leader for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine Paolo Carlo Belli told Interfax-Ukraine that the matter concerns the financing of eight or nine projects in Zakarpattia, Volyn, Rivne, Lviv, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, and Vinnytsia regions.

"These are the regions, in which projects have been discussed and approved," he said.

Belli noted that the term of the loan is 20 years, and its rate will depend on the Libor rate.

Loan funds could be issued in January-February 2015.

Now the signing of a loan agreement is in progress.

"Ukraine is now facing the problem of access to international capital markets and this loan is very important," the banker said.
