MTS Ukraine to close branches in Crimea

Mobile operator MTS Ukraine is liquidating the department and two branches in Crimea, according to a company report in the information disclosure system of the National Commission for Securities and the Stock Market of Ukraine.

The company said that the decision was made by its supervisory board on October 30, 2014.

Crimean territorial department, Sevastopol branch and Simferopol branch will be liquidated.

As reported, MTS Ukraine sold its property in Crimea for EUR 17.7 million (value added tax is included).

On August 7, 2014, the MTS Ukraine's networks fully stopped operating on the territory of Crimea. The company started gradually disconnecting its networks in the peninsula after the launch of Russia's K-Telecom LLC's network on August 4 operating on the radio frequency spectrum earlier belonged to the Ukrainian subsidiary of MTS.

Later MTS Ukraine resumed the provision of services to Crimean subscribers and from October 1, 2014 the operator transferred the servicing of its subscribers in Crimea to the TriMob networks, although the company failed to service its subscribers that TriMob stopped its operation in the city due to the closure of the branch of the parental company – public joint-stock company Ukrtelecom.
