Imports of goods to Ukraine plunge by 42% in Aug, surplus of balance of trade with goods totals $308 mln

The surplus of Ukraine's balance of trade with goods in August 2014 came to $308.1 million compared to $332 million in July, $61.1 million in June and $182.7 million in May, the State Statistics Service reported on Wednesday.

According to the service, in August 2014 exports fell by 16.9% year-over-year, to $4.258 billion, and imports plunged by 42%, to $3.95 billion, while in July the pace of exports and imports fall in July were smaller compared to the previous month – 5.9% an 33.8% respectively.

In January-August 2014, exports of goods from Ukraine was down by 6.8% year-over-year, to $37.679 billion, while imports decreased by 23.5%, to $36.514 billion.

The surplus of balance of foreign trade with goods in January-August 2014 came to $1.166 billion compared to the deficit of $7.324 billion year-over-year.

As reported, the deficit of Ukraine's balance of trade with goods in 2013 totaled $13.65 billion, which was 13.9% better than in 2012.
