Ukraine and China by the end of 2013 will sign a protocol on biosecurity requirements for barley and corn, which will allow the start of the delivery of these crops to China, the press service of the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food of Ukraine has said.

According to the report, the issue of expanding the range of agricultural produce exported to this country was discussed at the third meeting of the Ukrainian-Chinese subcommission on cooperation in agriculture in Beijing on September 18.

"China could become one of the largest importers of Ukrainian grain. We have successful experience in corn supplies. And now we are very interested in exporting barley and soybeans. In the future, we want to expand the range of exported agricultural produce to wheat, rapeseeds, as well as oil meal," the press service said citing Agricultural Minister of Ukraine Mykola Prysiazhniuk.

According to the report, Prysiazhniuk also appealed to China Deputy Minister of Agriculture Chen Xiaohua asking to speed up the process of determining quotas on maize imports.

In addition, the parties during the meeting discussed the possibility of exporting Ukrainian animal products and obtaining appropriate biosecurity requirements from China. According to a press release from the ministry, for better cooperation between the veterinary services of the states, the sides agreed to speed up the development of a memorandum on cooperation in the field of veterinary medicine.
