Fines for insurers for the late payment of compensation under OSAGO policy (obligatory insurance of the civil liability of car owners) should total 1% of the sum of the late insurance claim payment for every day of delay.

This is foreseen in the bill on amendments to the law of Ukraine "On obligatory insurance of the civil liability of car owners" regarding additional guarantees on receiving insurance compensation granted to those injured in car accidents), which was registered in the parliament on July 29.

MP Serhiy Fayermak from the Batkivschyna faction drew up the document.

Moreover, according to the norm, those injured in an accident gain the right to inform the insurance company that sold an OSAGO policy to person to blame for the accident about the insurance claim.

The MP says it is necessary to extend from three up to five days the term during which it is necessary to inform the insurer or the Motor (Transport) Insurance Bureau of Ukraine (MTIBU) about an accident, and start counting the term during which the compensation is to be paid not from the moment of submitting a claim following an accident, but from the moment the report about the accident was received.
