Ukrainian confectioners call on cabinet to settle problem with exports of Roshen products to Russia

The Ukrkondprom association has asked the Ukrainian government to help lift a ban imposed by Russia's Federal Consumer Rights Protection Service on the import to Russia of confectionary products made by Ukrainian confectioner Roshen.

"Ukrkondprom is calling on the Ukrainian government to define an interstate procedure of conciliation with Russia to settle the problem without the introduction of trade bans," reads the press release of the association issued on July 30, 2013.

Ukrkondprom President Oleksandr Baldyniuk said that the quality and safety of Roshen products are confirmed by Russian certification agencies. The company's enterprises are ready to undergo an off-schedule check by the relevant agencies.

Ukrkondprom said it believes that the ban on importing confectionary products made by Roshen to Russia will result in "artificial restrictions in trade relations between the two countries."

According to the association, every month Roshen exports products worth some UAH 135 million to Russia.

The head of the Russian regulator, Gennady Onishchenko said on July 29 that Russia's sanitary services on Monday imposed a ban on imports of products manufactured by Roshen.

On July 11 Russia's Federal Consumer Rights Protection Service expressed its concern over the quality of Ukrainian confectionery products.

Roshen operates confectionery factories in Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Mariupol and Kremenchuk, the Bershadmoloko dairy producer, a stud farm in Ukraine and also confectionary facilities in Klaipeda, Lithuania and Lipetsk, Russia. The company produces up to 200 types of confectionaries. Its total annual production volume reaches 410,000 tonnes.
