Ukraine doubles solar capacity in 2012

The installed capacity of solar power plants in Ukraine operating on a feed-in tariff in 2012 doubled (by 183.4 MW), to 371.6 MW, according to an annual report by the National Commission for Energy Regulation (NCER).

The installed capacity of wind power plants in the past year increased by 32.38% (47.4 MW), to 193.8 MW, that of small hydro power plants increased by 3.8% (2.7 MW), to 73.5 MW.

The power of bioenergy facilities in 2012 grew by 2 MW, to 6.2 MW.

Last year almost all sectors of renewable energy rapidly increased supply of electricity to the network.

Solar power plants increased electricity supply by 11 times (303.5 million kWh), to 333.6 million kWh. Wind farms for the year increased electricity output by 2.9 times (168.5 million kWh), to 257.5 million kWh, biofuel stations - by 1.8 times (8.1 million kWh), to 17.7 million kilowatt-hours.

At the same time, small hydropower plants in 2012 reduced supply of electricity by 15.5% (31.5 million kWh), to 171.9 million kWh.

In general, in 2012 renewable energy stations in Ukraine produced 780.7 million kWh of electricity, which accounts for 0.45% of the total balance of the country's energy market.
